The short version
- We don't have accounts, ads, analytics or trackers.
- We don't collect, sell or share your personal data. We have no server that receives it.
- Calendar events, music, Bluetooth devices and app usage are read on your device only to draw your widgets.
- The weather widget sends your chosen location to Open-Meteo to get a forecast. Nothing else leaves your phone.
1. Who we are
MaterialX (“the app”, package com.tis.materialx) is published on Google Play by The Infosharp (“we”, “us”). This policy applies to the MaterialX Android app and this website.
2. What we collect
We do not collect personal data. MaterialX has no user accounts and no backend server, and it contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs. We cannot see who you are or how you use the app.
To show your widgets, the app reads some information on your device. This information is processed locally, kept in the app's private storage on your phone, and is not sent to us.
| Data | Used for | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Approximate location | Weather widget forecast | Yes, to Open-Meteo only (see section 4) |
| City name you search | Finding a weather location | Yes, to Open-Meteo only |
| Calendar events | Schedule widget | No |
| Playing media (title, artist, album art, play state) | Now Playing widgets | No |
| Bluetooth device names and battery levels | Earbuds widget, Bluetooth toggle | No |
| App usage time | Screen Time widget | No |
| Phone battery, Wi-Fi and ringer state | Battery and Quick Toggles widgets | No |
| Notes you type, widget settings | Daily Note widget, your widget choices | No |
3. Permissions and why we ask
Every permission is optional. The app asks for one only when you set up a widget that needs it, and the rest of the app keeps working if you say no.
Location (approximate)
Used once, when you tap “Use my location” in weather settings, to find your area for the forecast. You can instead search for a city by name and never grant location access. The app does not track your location in the background.
Calendar
Reads upcoming events from calendars on your phone to show them in the Schedule widget. The app never changes, adds or uploads events.
Notification access
Android requires this permission for an app to see which song is playing and to offer play, pause and skip buttons. MaterialX uses it only to read the current media session for the Now Playing widgets. It does not read, store or share the content of your notifications.
Usage access
Granted by you in Android Settings. Lets the Screen Time widget show how long you've used your phone and your most-used apps today. This data stays on your device.
Bluetooth (nearby devices)
Shows the name and battery level of your connected earbuds or headphones, and the Bluetooth on/off state.
Internet, Wi-Fi state, run at startup
Internet access is used only to download weather forecasts. Wi-Fi state is shown in Quick Toggles. Run at startup lets widgets keep refreshing after your phone restarts.
You can review or withdraw any permission at any time in Android Settings > Apps > MaterialX > Permissions.
4. Third-party services
Open-Meteo (weather)
To show weather, the app sends the latitude and longitude of your chosen location (or the city name you search for) to Open-Meteo, a free weather service. No account, name, device ID or other identifier is sent. As with any web request, Open-Meteo receives your device's IP address. Their handling of data is described in the Open-Meteo terms and privacy policy. If you don't use the weather widget, no request is made.
Google Play
MaterialX is distributed and sold through Google Play. Purchases, payments and refunds are handled by Google, and we never receive your card or payment details. Google's processing is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Google Play may also provide us with aggregated, anonymous statistics such as install counts and crash rates, which we cannot link to you.
5. Storage and retention
Widget settings, notes, your weather location and a cached forecast are kept in the app's private storage on your phone for as long as the app is installed. The forecast cache is replaced every time a new forecast is downloaded.
If you have turned on Android backup, Android may include these app settings in your device backup to your Google account, under Google's terms. Uninstalling MaterialX, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, deletes all of this data from your phone.
7. Security
Data the app reads stays in Android's private app storage, which other apps cannot access. Weather requests are made over encrypted HTTPS connections.
8. Your choices and rights
- Permissions: grant or withdraw any permission at any time in Android Settings.
- Deletion: clear the app's storage or uninstall it to delete all locally stored data.
- Weather: use a searched city instead of your location, or don't use the weather widget at all.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or US state privacy laws), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Since we hold no personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to provide, but you are welcome to contact us with any request and we will respond.
9. Children
MaterialX is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
